Yearlong work begins at Aylmer water plant leading to closure of bike path segment

On June 5, Gatineau began working on modifying the post-ozonation process at the Aylmer drinking water plant located at 1 Rue Raoul-Roy in Parc des Cèdres. The work process is expected to last approximately a year. 

The work involves modifications to the post-ozonation process. Ozonation is a disinfection and purification process that is effective against bacteria and viruses. The process turns iron, manganese, and sulfur in the water into a form that can then be filtered out of the water. 

The work has led to the closure of a part of the bike path that runs through the park. Gatineau says the closure is to ensure public safety. There is a detour path that utilizes nearby streets to bypass the work zone. Cyclists and other path users must use Derwin, Metcalfe, Harvey and John Streets to detour. To get back to the accessible bike path, the entrances are at the Raoul-Roy and Derwin intersection and at the corner of Cathcart and John Streets. 

Parking on the streets being used for the detour will be prohibited until the work is complete. Gatineau reminds residents to exercise caution, respect temporary signage and avoid approaching the work zone.
