Who am I?
Andrée Lavoie
I'm one of the most discreet wetland birds in and around the Deschênes Forest. I'm a small, stocky wader that belongs to the heron family.
I'm particularly fond of the Pont Rouge area, which is well known to hikers. I nest in small colonies and build my nest in trees at heights ranging from 3 to 20 meters. You won't see much of me during the day, as I prefer to hunt at night, from dusk to dawn. I'm about 65 cm long, with a black back and top of the head, a gray breast and short yellowish legs.
I'm an angler that can stand still for long periods at the water's edge, patiently waiting for the right moment to seize my prey with my long beak. I feed on small fish, insects and amphibians.
I'm the black-crowned night heron
