Tragedy in Otter Lake: man drowns during evening swim

On the evening of Saturday, July 12, a 25-year-old man from Campbell’s Bay drowned in a lake located between Pelletier Road and Highway 301 in Otter Lake, in the MRC Pontiac.

While swimming with a group of people, the man attempted to cross the lake to reach a floating platform but disappeared from view. “Around 9 pm, emergency services were called for a man reported missing in a lake in the Otter Lake area,” said Marc Tessier, media relations officer for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

According to Tessier, search efforts were conducted by emergency personnel and bystanders. The victim was found deceased the following day around 1 pm by SQ divers. He was not wearing a flotation device at the time of the incident.

“An investigation is underway to determine the cause and circumstances of the drowning,” Tessier said. The coroner has also been notified.
