Quebec skier Tory Audet, a product of the Chelsea Nordiq ski club, made a dominant performance at the Canada Winter Games in Brookvale, Prince Edward Island, winning the 7.5 km individual event in classic technique for women with a 21-second lead over the rest of the field.
The 17-year-old Audet collapsed crossing the finish line after giving everything to win gold.
Audet's victory at the Canada Winter Games is a testament to the high-quality coaching and training she has received at the Chelsea Nordiq ski club. The club, located in Chelsea, Quebec, has been developing cross-country skiers for over 40 years and has a reputation for producing top-level athletes. With a focus on technique and endurance, the club has helped Audet and other skiers reach their full potential.
Audet's victory was especially remarkable given her recent injury. She had been limited to sprint events since her return to competition earlier this month due to a back injury that cost her participation in the world junior championships. Despite this setback, Audet's performance at the Canada Winter Games shows that she has not lost her competitive edge and that she is on track to achieve even greater success in the future.
In an interview after the race, Audet praised the course as "super beautiful" but also very challenging, with several climbs. She described the support of her club as instrumental in preparing her for the demanding course, saying, "The coaches and the team at Chelsea Nordiq have been so supportive throughout my recovery, and their training and coaching has helped me become a better athlete."
Overall, Audet's victory at the Canada Winter Games is a major achievement not just for her, but for the Chelsea Nordiq ski club and the sport of cross-country skiing as a whole. With the support of her coaches, teammates, and club, Audet has shown that she has what it takes to succeed at the highest levels of competition. Her victory is an inspiration to young skiers everywhere and a testament to the power of dedication and hard work in achieving one's goals.
