Three Aylmer Teens arrested for Arson
Sophie Demers
Between April 9 and 11, Gatineau police were called to intervene in six fires that were lit in garbage cans and another that broke out in a shed. All fires took place in Aylmer on various streets, including Bancroft, du Couvent, Parker, Dalhousie, Lord-Aylmer, Parker, and Thomas. There were no injuries caused by these incidents.
Gatineau police suspected the incidents were related as they occurred a short distance from each other and the elements found at the scenes were similar. It was clear the fires were not accidental.
The files were transferred to the office of criminal investigations in order to find the link between the events and identify the perpetrators. After the investigations, it was determined the incidents were in fact related and three teenagers were arrested at the end of April. The teens were 15 and 16 years of age.
The charges and the number of charges may vary for each teenager, depending on their degree of involvement. Gatineau police say charges of arson and complicity have been submitted to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) in the Youth Division.
