The weather is hot, and now it's garage sale season

May is the month when a glimpse of summer emerges, with nice, hot weather, blue skies, and school ending. Another bonus is garage sales. The season for garage sales has kicked off, with multiple sales and shops happening all around Aylmer.
Every weekend, about five to ten garage sales take place, with a variety of antiques and vinyl records for sale. Yard and garage sales are a good way to bring the community outside, enjoy the nice hot weather, and meet new people.
APICA, the business association that promotes local entrepreneurs, is hosting its own garage sale on Saturday, May 30. If the weather is not favourable, the sale may be moved to Sunday, May 31, on Principal Street as part of its estivale movement, which holds events to bring the community together outdoors.
Vincent Roy, Municipal Councillor, Aylmer District, expressed his excitement about the APICA garage sale, noting that it will not only support the garage sale but also give people the chance to walk up and down Principale Street and visit the boutiques. Roy mentioned that creating a “commercial hub” on Principal Street is a unique and brilliant idea.
“Garage sales are a lot like Halloween, it gives a reason to visit your neighbours and present yourself and create links,” Roy said.
A couple of schools in the Aylmer community are hosting their own yard and flea markets, including South Hull, which is hosting its flea market on Saturday, May 23, and Lord Aylmer, which is hosting a spring garage sale at the Frank Robinson arena on May 30.
Roy mentioned that the garage sales are more of an Aylmer tradition, as they have been happening for the longest time.
There are signs for garage and yard sales at most intersections in Aylmer. Still, at the intersection of Principale Street and Boulevard Wilfrid-Lavigne, there is a median lined with garage and yard sales, with signs for upcoming weekend sales, including a couple on Saturday, May 30.
