The lovely little flora of the Deschênes forest
Trees and shrubs aren't the only things that grow in and around our forest, as we discovered on our last outing. We'd like to introduce you to two plants we admired on our hike.
Wild chicory
This pretty plant flowers all summer long, from June to September. It is easily distinguished by its beautiful lilac-blue flowers. Not very temperamental, it thrives in poor soil and tolerates drought well. It can often be seen along roadsides and on wasteland. It attracts bees and butterflies.
Common tansy
This is a tall herbaceous plant that can grow to over 90 cm, with pretty golden-yellow flowers that resemble small buds. It is very fragrant when touched or crumpled. Easily recognized when in flower, it blooms most abundantly in August.
You'll find these flowers along the bike path in the future Parc Deschênes. Take a look and see if you can spot them.
