The Aylmer Sector Partners focus on activities for teens and families

The Partners of the Aylmer Sector (PSA) focus on creating events and activities for children, teenagers, and parents. They are focusing on teens 12 to 17 years of age in many of their upcoming events to get them involved in community activities, in socializing, and in expressing themselves. Currently, they are running a theater workshop for young adults. There are limited places and registration ends February 17. Auditions will take place February 20 at 584 Boulevard Wilfrid-Lavigne, starting at 6 pm.
The community organization is currently working on creating workshops for teenagers that will consist of activities in a gymnasium. They are currently finalizing the programming, which will run during March break, with another session in the spring or summer. More information will be announced in the near future.
PSA organizes many activities in collaboration with other organizations such as their Parents space group, which was designed in collaboration with L’Accompagnement des femmes immigrantes de l’Outaouais (AFIO). The group accompanies immigrant parents and provides them a space to share and discuss life experiences without judgement. Parent space consists of seven two-hour workshops led by facilitators. The workshops began on January 30.
“The workshops are great to create community and social ties for immigrant parents in the sector,” said Edem Gbetoglo, who oversees communications and marketing at PSA.
In collaboration with Groupe Communautaire Dêschenes, PSA created an Aylmer Buying group.
As the cost-of-living increases, buying groceries can be a significant expense for many people. The Aylmer Buying group gets people together to buy food in bulk to save money on the unit price of selected grocery items. Each month individuals who signed up for the group will receive a list of available products and orders can be picked up at the Groupe Communautaire Deschênes, 55 Ch. The organization conducted a survey of between 300 and 400 families to get a better understanding of their needs, and to create activities that meet the needs of families in the community. More activities and programs will be announced for families and teens in the spring and summer months.
PSA recently launched their newsletter, which lists their activities as well as the upcoming activities of their partner organizations, such as the Centre Entre-nous or the Groupe Communautaire Dêschenes.
