Teens attacked near Aylmer marina; Gatineau police say investigation is ongoing

On Tuesday, July 11, at around 9:45 pm, Gatineau police received a call regarding two teens who were allegedly assaulted by another group of teenagers. According to a parent of one of the victims, the two were beaten up by the group and their possessions stolen. Police say the victims suffered minor injuries that were not life-threatening.

According to the parent, one victim was transported to CHEO to get stitches. No information is known about the second victim at this time. The parents also alleged that the attackers were wearing black ski masks; police did not address this detail. “If by chance you notice a ski mask out and you have a 16- to 19-year-old teenager who was out last night, please question them. This is not okay,” said the concerned parent who wished to remain anonymous in light of the incident.

Police interviewed several people at the scene. Two people of interest were identified and met with investigators. Gatineau police say the investigation is ongoing.

This is not the first incident of its kind; there have been seven similar incidents in different parts of Gatineau in 2023. The incidents are defined as “assault with a weapon or infliction of bodily harm,” according to the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) code. However, police say at this time they do not know whether any of the events are related. Their investigators are trying to establish links between files but are in the early stages of investigation.

“We understand that such an event is worrying for parents and residents in the area,” said Andrée East, public relations officer with the Gatineau Police. “We understand that this can lead to a feeling of insecurity among the population. We would like to reassure the public that this type of event is taken seriously by Gatineau police.”
