Strings and Songs: The Aylmer Legion’s Music Jam
Cam Middleton
The Aylmer Legion hosted a community music jam event on Saturday, July 13. This community event was one in a series of open gatherings where musicians and singers of all skill levels could take the stage. These events are open to all ages as well, and younger generations will probably hear some songs they recognize!
Of course, there was no obligation to get on stage, and many were content to sit and sing along or socialize and just enjoy the music. It was a lively occasion, and it got pretty wild when Karen played Wagon Wheel so hard, she broke her guitar string. Fortunately, another performer offered to fix it, and let her use his guitar in the meantime. The events main organizer, Manon Grègoire, encourages everyone to come by, she told the Bulletin she aims to host the event monthly.
Renting the legion is costly, and as a non-profit organization, their only direct revenue comes from the drinks sold during these community events. To raise money, the legion is hosting a golf tournament fundraiser on September 21 to support their operations and ensure that they can continue to host these events.
