The Aylmer sector's Association of Professionals, Industrialists, and Business People (APICA) is organizing a full weekend of festivities to welcome the arrival of spring. The event, called Le Vieux-Aylmer Se Sucre le Bec and Cinéma l'hiver, is expected to attract more than 30,000 people to Old Aylmer. The event will take place on March 25-26, 2023, and will feature a variety of activities for families.
"The animation on Principale Street responds to the need for visibility of businesses in the Aylmer sector and encourages the population to buy local," said Patrick Chenier, president of APICA. "The animation of Principale Street is necessary to increase the attractiveness of the sector and thus increase the traffic in the businesses. In fact, businesses are experiencing an increase in transactions, but more importantly, an increase in notoriety, with a different clientele than usual." Chenier emphasized the importance of animating Principale Street to support local businesses and promote buying local. "This initiative is crucial for promoting the importance of buying local and supporting small businesses in the Aylmer sector," he added.
In addition to the usual number of exhibitors (40 booths confirmed), some merchants on Main Street will offer special activities in front of their businesses. Families will be able to discover new local products, pet little farm animals, and get their faces painted or tattooed.
For the first time, APICA is also organizing an outdoor movie night. The movies will be shown on Friday and Saturday evenings at different locations. The public is invited to bring their comforter and hot chocolate to enjoy the films.
To accommodate the event, a portion of Broad and Park streets between Principale and Patrimoine streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from March 23 at 9 am to March 27 at 12 pm. One lane will be cleared on Broad and Park Streets, and a detour will be available on Court Street and Frank Robinson Street.
The festivities will launch during a happy hour on Friday evening at the Bistro l'autre œil, and the entire business community is invited to attend.
