Paul-Pelletier reopens after month-long closure, more work expected in the future

On July 8, the Paul-Pelletier aquatic centre reopened after nearly a month-long closure in order to complete necessary work on the facility. The pool was closed from June 12 to July 7 for phase one of the work that included fixing heating deficiencies, ventilation, and air conditioning, as well as work on the salt chlorination system, the UV disinfection system, the roof membranes, the linear drain system and the roof structure of the aquatic basin. Gatineau states that the work is necessary to preserve the building and to ensure the pool’s operation.

The closure was extended due to safety issues. The pool reopened on July 8 with a slightly altered schedule as daytime work was required on July 10 and 11.

Phase two of the work is expected to be scheduled for the coming years which will lead to the closure of the centre for approximately 12 months. According to Gatineau, phase two is expected to be completed in two years’ time. This gives the city time to prepare a contingency plan for the pool’s extended closure, to minimize the impact on the services for residents. The contract for phase two of the work was awarded in December 2022.
