Two dedicated volunteers from the Outaouais were recognized in Quebec City on December 9 for their outstanding contributions to off-road vehicle trail maintenance and safety. Guy Chénier was awarded for his work on all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trails, while Daniel Somers received recognition for his efforts with snowmobile routes.
The awards were presented as part of the 16th annual Off-Road Vehicle Volunteer Recognition ceremony, an event celebrating those who play a crucial role in maintaining and monitoring trail networks across the province.
Jonatan Julien, Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, underscored the importance of these efforts and announced nearly $16 million in provincial funding to support safer practices in the use of ATVs and snowmobiles. The investment will help fund new equipment, improved signage, and training programs for trail patrol officers.
“Making our snowmobile and ATV trails safer is an absolute priority,” said Minister Julien. “Throughout the year, devoted volunteers work hard to ensure the trails are in top condition. Their time and care help prevent accidents and save lives, and I’m truly grateful.”
Mathieu Lacombe, Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, personally thanked the recipients for their role in supporting both safety and the local economy. “Your dedication helps make our trails safer and more enjoyable for riders,” he said. “By giving your time so generously, you also contribute to regional development. Thank you.”
