New collection of Eco-Responsibility Projects launched in Outaouais region

A diverse collection of innovative eco-responsibility projects has been unveiled in the Outaouais region, thanks to the efforts of Fonds Écoleader advisors. These projects, supported by the Écoleader Fund's financing program, encompass a wide range of environmentally conscious initiatives, from energy efficiency to waste management and circular economy strategies.
The Écoleader Fund, which has been guiding and supporting companies in adopting environmentally responsible business practices and clean technologies since 2019, has injected over $18.5 million to support more than 1,250 businesses across Quebec. The financial assistance provided by the fund has not only catalyzed private investment but also driven improvements in both environmental performance and overall productivity, amounting to over $50 million in investments by the Écoleader Fund and businesses combined.
The newly released collection of projects showcases three exceptional businesses in the Outaouais region that have been recipients of the Écoleader Fund's support: Club Lac Brûlé, Gazifère and HOM Mini Chalets. These businesses exemplify the commitment to eco-responsibility and sustainable development.
One of the highlighted projects is that of Club Lac Brûlé, an outfitter nestled in the heart of the Outaouais region. The outfitter, known for offering fishing, bear and moose hunting, sought to enhance its eco-responsibility by addressing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improving energy efficiency. With the support of the Écoleader Fund, Tourisme Outaouais, and Virage Vert (SADC Pontiac), Club Lac Brûlé embarked on a feasibility study for the implementation of a hydroelectric power station on the river. This hydroelectric facility not only ensures a constant power supply to its facilities but also contributes to a reduction of 127 tons of CO2 equivalent per year, reduces the risk of fossil fuel spills, and minimizes transportation of fossil fuels.
Gazifère, a natural gas distributor with a network spanning over 1,000 km and serving more than 43,500 customers in residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors, is another notable participant in the collection. With the Écoleader Fund's assistance, Gazifère embarked on a feasibility study for the development of natural gas production in the Outaouais region. The company aims to transition towards renewable natural gas (RNG) and contribute to achieving emission reduction targets. Through biomethanization of residual organic materials, Gazifère plans to divert 58,500 to 60,500 tons of waste from landfill or traditional composting and avoid 17,000 to 24,000 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions annually, thereby significantly enhancing its environmental impact.
HOM Mini Chalets, a luxury mini-cottage rental business located on Lake McGregor, is the third business highlighted in the collection. With a focus on sustainable development, HOM Mini Chalets developed a comprehensive plan to integrate eco-friendly practices into its operations. Funding from the Écoleader Fund facilitated the implementation of strategies such as installing electric vehicle charging points and optimizing building energy efficiency. The company's commitment to sustainability not only improved its brand image but also led to distinctive offerings, including a 5% projected increase in rental rates over the next two years and a 40% reduction in energy bills.
