The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 in Aylmer officially launched its 2026 Poppy Campaign on Wednesday, October 21. The event took place at its hall at 59 rue Bancroft.
The gathering culminated in the presentation of the first poppy of the annual campaign, a symbol of remembrance honouring the military personnel and veterans who have served Canada. A moment of silence was also observed during the event to honour the memory of the victims of the tragic fire at CFB Wainwright. The first poppy was presented to veteran Yvan Teasdale by the branch president, Manon Grégoire.
As Remembrance Day, celebrated on November 11, approaches, the campaign invites the public to wear a poppy in memory of those who lost their lives in the service of their country, as well as in recognition of the sacrifices made by service members to defend peace and freedom.
The funds raised through this initiative also help support veterans and their families, particularly through the Royal Canadian Legion’s assistance programs.
Over the next few weeks, poppies will be distributed at several businesses in the Aylmer area. Residents will thus be able to participate in the campaign and support services for veterans. Detailed information is available on the official website of the Royal Canadian Legion, Aylmer Branch 33.
Through this annual initiative, Branch 33 aims to uphold the collective duty to remember and encourage the community to take part in the November commemorations.
