Sophie Demers

Gatineau police received a call concerning a verbal altercation that had escalated at a home on rue Dumas in Hull on April 13 at approximately 10:30 pm. Allegedly, during the conflict, threats were made, and a firearm was pointed at the victims.

Authorities established a perimeter and conflict intervention professionals arrived on site to help police officers. On April 14 at 7:15 am, police arrested a 36-year-old Gatineau resident, Yann Meunier-Bourassa. A search was also conducted by investigators. They seized 10.77 grams of cocaine, 3 methamphetamine tablets, a list of accountants, and $300.

The suspect was transported to the police station, where he was interviewed by investigators. He appeared in court that day. Meunier-Bourassa faces 14 charges, including pointing a firearm, robbery, uttering threats, assault, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and failure to comply with probation.

Gatineau Police encourage all residents to report any information concerning firearms by contacting the info line at 819-243-4636 option 5.

CENTAURE Strategy

The CENTAURE strategy is used by many police services across the province, including Gatineau’s. The strategy is used to fight gun-related violence by putting pressure on organized crime and actively combating the trafficking of illegal firearms. This is done by targeting the supply, importation, distribution, and illegal possession of firearms.

Any information regarding firearms can also be reported to the CENTAURE confidential telephone line 1-833-888-2763. The phone line compiles all firearm information and helps optimize police operations across various cities.
