Dinty's, a family restaurant that has been a staple in Aylmer since the 1930s, has a rich history that spans several decades. Established in the 1930s, the restaurant was named after the character "Dinty Moore" from the popular comic strip "Bringing up Father" at the time.
In 1962, Greek immigrant Peter Sourges, bought the restaurant and began a journey that would see him and his family transform it into the beloved establishment that it is today. In the 1960s, Peter and his wife Afroditi renovated the restaurant and added banquettes with mini jukeboxes, pizza to the menu and even a home delivery service.
However, in 1976, the restaurant was destroyed by a fire, which resulted in yet another renovation. This time around, Peter and his family decided to add a bar and a dining room to the restaurant. As the end of the 80s approached, the Sourges family decided to introduce their Greek heritage, adding souvlaki and gyros and their famous homemade vinaigrette.
In 2000, the Sourges family took a bold step and built a brand new building for Dinty's. The new "Dintys" was inaugurated in November of that year and became an instant hit with the locals. In 2012, the Sourges family celebrated their 50th anniversary as owners of the restaurant.
"We owe our success to our customers and our employees; and we intend to keep our recipe for great food, friendly family atmosphere, and great service for years to come!" said Peter Sourges.
Now in 2023, Dintys has been through their most recent transformation after extensive renovations are finally complete. Peter's wife and 3 sons decided to invest in their customers' comfort, satisfaction and enjoyment. They want their customers to experience the great ambiance, excellent customer service, and delicious food in a newly updated, bright and vibrant atmosphere.
Dintys serves a great many menu items from comfort food to Greek food, in honour of the family’s Greek Heritage. Whether you're looking for a quick bite to eat or a relaxing evening out, Dinty's has something for everyone. From the mouthwatering souvlaki and gyros to the crispy pizza and homemade vinaigrette, every dish is prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail. The restaurant continues to be a popular spot in Aylmer, with locals and tourists alike flocking to enjoy its famous dishes. "One of the better restaurants in Aylmer," raved one satisfied customer in a recent review on Trip Advisor.
As customers walk through the doors of Dinty's, they are greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that is as inviting as the food is delicious. The restaurant's long history is evident in the cozy and comfortable decor, which provides the perfect backdrop for a satisfying meal with family and friends. At Dinty's, the Sourges family continues to carry on the tradition of providing exceptional food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere that has made the restaurant a beloved institution in Aylmer for decades.
