Ferme éco des Champs
Tashi Farmilo
Ferme éco des Champs, an ecological farm located in Aylmer, Quebec, is changing the world one vegetable at a time. The farm, which opened in 2019, is dedicated to food production using permaculture and biodiversity practices. They grow over 30 varieties of vegetables, raise laying hens and broiler chickens, and have numerous beehives. The farm emphasizes the health of the soil, which allows them to produce healthy, quality food while respecting the environment.
Ferme éco des Champs offers generous and tasty seasonal baskets (June 22 to October 7).
They offer three different sizes to suit every family's needs, with a choice of vegetarian or protein baskets, including eggs and chicken. The farm offers flexibility for vacations or weeks when you are not able to pick up your basket. The baskets are filled with vegetables, fruits, and other surprises such as local honey, maple syrup, and baked goods that families really enjoy. Reservations for the 2023 season are now open online.
In addition to food production, Ferme éco des Champs offers a unique experience in the area, a 200+ giant hay bale maze, open year-round. Children and adults alike can get lost in the winding paths of this fun and playful maze. They also host a special Easter event, an Easter egg hunt in the farm maze, with activities such as face painting, puzzles, crafts, contests, and surprises. Reservations for the event are available online, and space is limited, so they encourage customers to reserve their spot as soon as possible.
The farm is committed to giving back to the community. They redistribute surplus food to various non-profit organizations in the region and have launched a socio-financing project for the purchase of a bus that will be used to transport children and families from the region to the farm for educational visits and outdoor activities. Desjardins, their partner, will double the donations raised in the community. People are invited to participate by visiting the Hive platform to contribute and get products from the farm in return.
The aim of Ferme éco des Champs is to make a positive impact on the world by growing a diverse range of vegetables using sustainable farming practices like surface cover and intensive cultivation. Their objective is to provide nutritious market garden products in a sustainable manner, all while preserving the land's biodiversity.
Jade Désautels, et la famille de la ferme Éco des champs, the team behind the farm, are passionate about promoting responsible agriculture and creating a human-scale environment that promotes learning and cooperation. They have received invaluable support from the local community, with customers sharing a strong sense of community, a willingness to buy local, and a keen interest in environmentally responsible and healthy food.
"At the Éco des champs farm, we want to share our passion for sustainable agriculture with young and old. We want to offer visitors a fun and lively experience of the market gardening world. On a human scale, you will discover committed people and eco-responsible practices," said Jade Désautels.
