Councillor: Caroline Murray
District 3, Deschênes
Message to Residents about mandate so far:
“A lot of learning, a lot of new challenges, but most of all, a lot of work was done in this year 2022. You, the residents, talked to me a lot about speeding on the streets during the election campaign. That is why I asked to sit on the Committee on Transport, Sustainable Development and Safety,” said Councillor Caroline Murray. “I would like the Commission to review the eligibility criteria for implementing traffic control measures in order to make our streets safer. In the district, the speed limit was reduced from 70 to 60 km/h on Cook and Vanier Roads, and speed bumps were also added on Du Vallon Avenue.”
Message to Residents about plans for 2023:
“In 2023, I will continue to work towards the rehabilitation of Lucerne Boulevard between Vanier and Frank-Robinson to ensure that the project meets the needs of all users,” said Murray. “Additionally, I will be holding more town hall meetings in 2023 to hear resident’s ideas and to keep you informed of projects taking place in the district.”
I have had numerous meetings with municipal departments regarding the rehabilitation of Lucerne Boulevard between Vanier and Frank-Robinson to ensure that the project meets the needs of all users (pedestrians, cyclists and motorists),” added Murray. “Discussions are moving in the right direction and every effort should be made to provide you with a safe boulevard as soon as possible.”
Murray highlighted that her other priorities in the coming year will be protecting green spaces, such as the Boucher and Deschênes Forests, and developing infrastructure such as parks, sports fields, and community centres to keep up with the population growth. The Deschênes councillor said she would continue to defend the eco-tax measure next year in hopes of reducing Gatineau’s dependance on property taxes in the next budget.
“For 2023, I hope that the federal government will finally commit to the tramway project. This project will have a major impact on reducing greenhouse gases and improving the flow of traffic. In the meantime, I will continue to work with the STO to improve traffic in the area in the short and medium terms,” Murray concluded.
