Construction worker killed in work accident involving a 10-wheel truck

On September 11, shortly after 7:00 am near 243 chemin de la Rivière in Chelsea, the Collines-de-l’Outaouais MRC police received a call about a workplace accident on a construction site.

A 10-wheel truck backed up, while behind it a colleague was putting diesel in his crawler tractor. The 63-year-old man from Bouchette was trapped between the two vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Collines-de-l’Outaouais police, an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The CNESST, the organization that the Quebec Government has entrusted to administer and oversee occupational health and safety, was called to the scene. Representatives from the Chelsea Municipality were also present.

"We are deeply affected by the tragedy on chemin de la Rivière,” said Chelsea Mayor Pierre Guénard. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the victim's family and loved ones, and to the team of workers from the company involved. The Municipality is in contact with those in charge of the investigation and will, of course, offer its full cooperation."

Flags were flown at half-mast for three days after the tragic accident.
