City gathers to welcome new mayor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette
Lily Ryan
The swearing-in ceremony was held at City Hall, June 18. The mayor elect, Maude Marquis-Bissonnette took office, as did the new councillor for Carrefour-de-l’Hôpital Ward, Catherine Craig-St-Louis. In the by-election held June 9, Ms Marquis-Bissonnette won by almost 11% over the next closest candidate, former mayor of Hull, Yves Ducharme. With the wins of Marquis-Bissonnette and her running-mate in the district by-election for Carrefour-de-l’Hôpital, Gatineau’s only political party, Action Gatineau gained ground on council. With 19 councillors plus the mayor’s vote on council, Action Gatineau has ten seats, exactly half.
Marquis-Bissonnette’s first meetings since her swearing-in June 18 were with city staff and local politicians.
