“Café en espagnol” makes learning Spanish fun

On Saturday, October 10, at the Lucy-Faris library, “Café en espagnol" offered participants a morning of learning and discovery centered on the Spanish-speaking world, with travel as the main theme. Through games, interactive activities, and music, participants were able to practice their Spanish while exploring different aspects of travel.
The session featured Monopolingo, an adaptation of the famous game Monopoly designed to introduce participants to the 21 Spanish-speaking countries. Participants had to buy properties, perform calculations, and make decisions, all while practicing currency conversions. The activity thus combined language learning with basic math skills.
The group then took part in Cafélingo, an activity focused on vocabulary and useful expressions for travel. Questions illustrated with some participants’ avatars made the exercise more personalized and interactive, while allowing participants to practice phrases they might use when traveling abroad.
The session then concluded on a musical note with a Spanish version of the Beatles’ song “Hey Jude.” Participants were invited to fill in the missing words in the lyrics—a fun way to practice their understanding of the language.
Beyond the engaging exercises, these sessions foster interaction among participants and create opportunities to connect around a shared interest in Spanish. “Café en espagnol" thus offers a relaxed approach to learning, where language practice is accompanied by cultural discoveries and moments of sharing.
