Fundraiser for Aylmer organisations launched

In a remarkable achievement for local apiculture, Aylmer's own beekeeper, Bob Valcov, has been awarded first place at this year's prestigious Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (The Royal) in Toronto. Valcov's honey triumphed in the dark class category, standing out amongst a competitive field of producers from across Canada.


The Royal, a venerable event inaugurated in 1922, is renowned as the world's largest indoor agricultural and equestrian event. Winning at The Royal, which attracts around 300,000 visitors annually to celebrate the finest in food, livestock, and horsemanship, is a significant accolade for any participant, whether they specialize in pickling, jamming, beef raising, or equestrian activities.


Valcov, who has dedicated nearly four decades to beekeeping in the Aylmer area and educates others in apiculture at Heritage College, attributes much of his success to his bees. “Our bees deserve a lot of the credit,” he quips, adding that winning at The Royal is akin to obtaining the Holy Grail in his field.

He also emphasizes the importance of his loyal clients, considering them as critical judges of his work. “Of course, the most important judges are our loyal clients who have supported us over the years,” Valcov continued.
